Where I come from
I didn't start in software. I studied Risk Management and Insurance at Ball State and spent about eight years in the business: as an underwriter at Protective, in client service at Gallagher, and then running my own independent brokerage, Soteria Insurance Group. That grew into a financial coaching practice, Chiron Coaching. I hold a Series 65 and an Indiana insurance license.
That background shapes how I work. Insurance teaches you to ask what could go wrong before anything ships, and to write things down so someone can check them. Coaching teaches you that most people don't need more information, they need someone to sit with them and work through it.
Why I changed course
When I started using AI, it was obvious it would reshape finance and insurance, the industry I'd built a career in. I could keep going and hope it came slowly, or bet the other way. I bet the other way.
AI has been my teacher. I went from typing questions into ChatGPT to running my own AI coding agent on a server, building and shipping software for local businesses. Nobody handed me a curriculum. I learned it the way most owners will have to, by doing the work.
The name
SC stands for Soteria and Chiron, my two earlier businesses. Soteria is the Greek spirit of safety, and Chiron is the centaur who taught the heroes. That's the arc: protect, then teach, and now build. The centaur on this site is Chiron.
Outside work
I'm president of the board of Pack Away Hunger and I coach youth rugby.
